Uriarte

URIARTE This is a common surname in the basque Country, with a lot of houses or farms with this name, but in Bizkaia and the west part of Gipuzkoa is URI and in the rest of Gipuzkoa and Iparralde is IRI or YRI, so is easy to know that probably comes from Bizkaia, the problem is that in Bizkaia there are more or less 39 houses, and in the west part of Gipuzkoa 10. there are also some houses in Araba. The author J. Kerexeta says that the older house Uriarte is located in Izpazter (Bizkaia).

Meaning: URI: means Town, but in toponims, the meaning is group of houses (3 is enough), ARTE: means Between, so the meaning is: (The house) between group of houses, a house alone between two groups of houses.

There are lots of proves of Nobility, and Lots of Coats of Arms, depending of the house
