ARRITOLA
This surname has houses in Izpazter, Lekeitio and Mundaka
(Vizcaya).
The meaning is "place of stones" which comes from "arri"
(piedra = rocks or stones) and "ola" (sitio de = place of -
denotes location).
The coat of arms is divided in quarters. The 1st and 4th
quarter have blue fields and each has three panelas (looks
like an upsidedown leaf) of silver in the formation of a
triangle. The 2nd and 3rd quarter are gold and each has a
red aspa (a symbol that resembles an "X") which covers the
whole quarter (goes from border to border) and four stars of
the same color. The stars are positioned between the points
of the "X."

Hello everyone,
The reason I am writing this message is because I was also wondering about my family history. I want to know where my last name came from. What keeps me interested is the fact that my last name is not very common, and I constantly get asked if it came from spain. I hesitate to answer that question because I don't know, I wish I could give them an accurate and interesting answer which they are anticipating. Of course I hold my dad's last name. He is from Durango, Mexico and so is his parents and grandparents. It would be reasonable if my last name actually had something to do with my parents birth town. |

The surname Arriola or Arreola is an important part of Jalisco's history.
http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uni%C3%B3n_de_Tula. The Arriola (Arreola) surname is very common in the neighboring towns of Union de Tula. Palmar de los Pelayos and General Andres Figueroa(Catarina) Jalsico, MX is also an area where Arriolas have congregated. The following families Topete, Villaseñor, Lazcano y Arriola formed what is now known as Union De TULA. Note: T(topete) V(villaseñor) L(lazcano) A(arriola). The famous mexican writer Juan Jose Arreola is said to of known that his ancestors were from Union De Tula area, www.enotes.com/switchman/author-biography.
My mothers maiden name is Arreola. Her grandfather was born in Palmar de Los Pelayos, Jal MX. One thing to note. My great grandfather was a human rights activist and supported the mexican revolution for minority(peasant) rights. He was a very smart man. He was a spiritual man who did not believe in religion but had an enormous faith in GOD. Prayer was and is a part of our family to this day. The town of Catarina(General Andres Figueroa) Jalisco has a street that they have named Calle De los Ilustres. The Arreola families are congragated in that street. All of them are either mechanics, blacksmiths, electricians, politicians, muscians, engineers, lawyers or doctors. They are extremely smart, a common trait in almost all of them. |
