My husband's family patriarc came from Barcelona, Spain. He arrived in Glace Bay Nova Scotia. He had a wife with children left in Spain when he came over to Nova Scotia where he married again, his wife was Catherine Morrison. So there are many descendents from Ferdinand. Boy he was a busy guy.

My name is Jennifer Harrietha. I am married to Mark who is the son of Gord and Iona Harrietha. Gord, has brothers Kelly, & Phillip and a sister Theresa. I have a son, Ben and a daughter, Savannah. My husband's family is from Nova Scotia in the Bras D'Or area. My husband's grandfather is Earl, and says he knows of the "original spaniard" and descends from him, although he targets him around the late 1700's. Either that or he fathered several different families at once.

Hello,

I was just browsing the web searching my last name ARRIETA, and came across this website. I have no idea how but I did. I am from San Bernardino County, California, United States. I am so glad to hear that there are actually others with it. The only family I know with that last name are the very few in my own!!!

Hi, my name is Maria Harrietha and my father is Harold Harrietha. My grandfather is Duane Harrietha. I don't know much of any of the Harrietha family history besides that no one has ever heard or ever knows how to say it. I know that my grandfather Duane was born and raised in Washington state USA and is descended from Nova Scotia and Spain. He past some 7 years ago and my father was never close to him. I have 2 older sisters Sarah Harrietha and Angela Harrietha - Hasbrouck (she's married)and one younger brother named Benjamin Harrietha. My father has an older brother Vincent Harrietha and he has two sons Duane and Anthony Harrietha. My father also has two younger sisters Carol (two sons) and Deena (three sons and one daughter) Deena gave all her children the Harrietha name. That is about all I know, but if any one else knows or has heard of my family, let me know. Thanks Maria Harrietha.

My name is Lorraine Harrietha. My husband's name is Michael Wayne Harrietha. His family is from Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada. The original Harrietha was named Ferdinand. He was from Barcelona, Spain. He was born in 1826. He married Catherine Morrison when he came to Glace Bay. She was born in Scotland. Ferdinand came to Nova Scotia some 100 plus years ago. Anyway, one of his grandson was named Andrew who married Lucy Murphy from Newfoundland. They had Annie, Francis, Madeline, Regina, Edward, Maria, Gualbert and Stephen Harrietha. The surviving children are Madeline, Maria and Stephen. Madeline is in a nursing home in Quebec. Maria and Stephen still reside in Glace Bay.
My husband's father was Gualbert, who married Mary McNeil from Glace Bay Nova Scotia. They have 6 children. There was originally 9 children, but Mary and Gualbert lost 3 children. The first girl was Elaine. She died from pheumonia at age two. The other two infants were boys they were named Robert Wayne. The surviving children are Fabian, Elaine, Marilyn, Wayne (my husband), Brian and Sharon. We all live in the Toronto area, except Marilyn, she lives in New Brunswick. Both Mary and Gualbert are buried at Pine Hills Cemetery, Toronto, Ontario.

My family is Arrieta and we're from Colombia. My grandfather came to the United States in 1948. That's all I know. I'm always surprised to hear more people with that last name. there is a town in Basque-land called Arrieta and I assume that's where it's from.

Hey,
I am from the east coast of canada. I kept my mother's maiden name, Harrietha. I was also told it came from Basque, Arietta. Someone once mentioned something about four brothers coming over to the east coast, I am assuming from spain... but I would like to know more about the her name, she recently passed away, she is orginally from cape breton, and I don't speak to much of the Harrietha's that are left.

Hi:

My grandmother's surname was Harrietha, and I've been told this is the anglicized version of the Basque name, Arrieta. Her father, my great grandfather, settled on the east coast of Canada. Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. What little I know of him is that he had been a fisherman. Some people have said it is a Spanish or Portuguese name. If anyone knows, please advise?

Thanks, Hugh

Hi,

I originally came from Mexico to the U.S. in 1968. My grand father's name was Martin Arrieta and I have been trying to find information on the "Arrieta" last name. I understand it originated some place in spain or that it has some Basque origins. If you can be of help, please email and I will do the same.

Thanks,
Jesus Antonio Arrieta

I am attempting to identify the Basque version of the anglicized name Harritable which I think might have been something like Arrietabel. My family came from the Bilbao region to Australia in the 1860's. Does anyone have information on such a name please?

To get more information on the surname ARRIETA, type in "arrietafamily" in the address section and go through all the links. There is a coat of arms which, of course, you will have to buy. Also, one of the links gives you a little history on how the Arrietas arrived in Basque country and what the name means.

Several generations ago, maybe the early 1800's, one of my ancestors was sent to El Salvador, Central America from Basque country. That started a large family by the same name in the area.

You would think the name is unusual, but I think it's more along the lines of Smith or Jones.

We're all over the place.

Hi All

Arrieta is my great grandmother's name. She was from Basque. Her parents were Tomas Arrieta and Francisca Maiz, both Basque. They migrated to Uruguay in the late 1800's. I was born in the US of Uruguayan parents. I'm looking for relatives!! Tomas had 3 brothers he arrived to Uruguay with. So I know there's two other branches aside from my own, that of course would be relatives of mine. Would love to find you, wherever you are...

That for the moment is all I know.

Thanks - Nicolas Rodriguez
