Andia

ANDIA

This surname originates in Tolosa, Guipuzcoa and from there it extends to Zizurkil, Ondarribia/Fuenterrabía, Lezo, Najera, Garai, and in Infanzonado (of the nobility of Vizcaya). Also in Oñate, Guipuzcoa where it was known as Elorregui-Andia.

It means "The Great." From "Andi" (great) and the aricle "a".

The original coat of arms from Tolosa is divided in half vertically. On the left side, on a field of red, a golden castle. On the right side is a red lion standing on his hind legs with a gold crown on a silver background.
