ALDAPE
The origin of this surname is probably Bizkaia, there are several
farms (baserriak) with this name (Zenarruza-Bolivar, Lemoa, Luno, Elorrio,
Arteaga) and branches of this families in many other places (in the Arratia
valey in Bizkaia is a common surname, mainly in Lemoa and Dima), there is
also a House with this name in Orio (Gipuzkoa). The meaning is clear : "
The down part of the Hill or Grade", but can be also, Hill, or Grade.

I visited the San Sebastian as a student in 1982. There was a very steep and crooked street in San Sebastian named "Rua De Aldapeta".
The main library in San Sebastian said that Aldape means mountain slope in Basque.
I traveled to Guernica and located a person with the last name of Aldape and he looked just like my cousin in Laredo, Texas!
