AGOITIA
This is a very widespread surname originally (GOITIA) in Lezama, Meņaka,
Murelaga, Amorebieta, Kortezubi, Olabarrieta, Busturia, Berriatua,
Mendata (all of these in Vizcaya). Also it has original houses in Isaso
Ikora in the province of Guipuzcoa and many branches in other regions of
Spain.
It comes from the root word "Goiti" meaning high or elevated place.
As there are numerous coats of arms and you do not know the origin of
your particular family, I will describe here the first one mentioned:
On a field of gold, a green tree is pictured growing among some bushes.
To the left of the trunk, and trapped among the bushes is a black wild
boar.
