ABAROA There are farms with this name in Bizkaia. In
Pedernales-Sukarrieta there are 7 houses or farms with this name ( Abaroa,
Abaroa-barrena, Abaroa-etxebarria, Abaroa-goikoa etc..). There are also
farms with this name in Nabarniz and Sopelana. There have been branches in
Mundaka, Lekeitio, Amoroto etc (all in Bizkaia) and there was a branch in
Gipuzkoa
Meaning: Grove or wooded ground, a place to refuge cattle
Coat of Arms : There are various, but as the requester says that his family
came from Bermeo, I transcribe the coat of the Abaroa of Mundaka: En
plata, tres arboles de sinople terrasados de lo mismo y puestos en
situacion de faja; en el jefe dos llaves de azur puestas en aspa, con los

Yo tengo en mis ascendientes 3 personas con el apellido Abaroa
Todas de la provincia de Vizcaya (Bizkaia) población : Busturia-Axpe y Sukarrieta-Pedernales (no distan una de otra mas de 10 km.).
Domeca, Abaroa, Abaroa casada Jacobe, Aguirre, Aguirre tuvieron entre otros a
Maria, Aguirre, Abaroa nac. Busturia-Axpe 22/09/1.633 Francisco, Echevarria, Acurio.
Maria martinez (nombre), Abaroa, Abaroa casó en Busturia-Axpe 06/04/1.598 Gabriel, Birandona, Hormaeche tuvo entre otros a mi ascendiente: Francisca, Birandona, Abaroa casó en Sukarrieta-Pedernales 07/04/1.639 con Diego Munitis y tuvieron entre otros a :
Gabriel, Munitis, Abaroa ó Mirandona nac. en Busturia-Axpe 20/11/1.661.
En la Real Chancilleria de Valladolid se encuentra el Pleito civil de Gabriel y Fieles y vecinos de Arrazua sobre la posesión de la casa y casería de Barrutia y sus pertenecidos;Sala Vizcaya. 1.687
Por último Maria Andrés, Gordonis, Abaroa y Gordonis nac Busturia-Axpe 04/12/1.603 de padres Juan gonçalez Gordonis y Ochanda de Gordonis, entre otros tuvo tambien a :
Juan Ochoa de Gordonis hijo de Ochanda licencia de pasajero a Indias como criado de Cristobal de La Cerda y Sotomayor, oidor de la Real Audiencia de Santo Domingo 1.615, segun el archivo de contrataciones del ARCHIVO GENERAL DE INDIAS.

Soy familia de Maria Cruz Abaroa y Achica de Arriva, Zameza y Garaiondo, nacida el 13 de Sept de 1690 en Errigoiti (Rigoitia). Maria Cruz es hija de Francisco Abaroa Achica Legarraga (nacido en 1662 en Errigoiti) y Maria Zameza Garaiondo (nacida en 1663 en Arrieta). Maria Cruz se caso con mi antepasado Joseph Monesterio y Sagastiechea Jaureguzar. Si alguien quiere intercambiar informacion favor de escribir.

I am Alejandro Torre García, 39, live in Puebla City in México and I am cousin of Fernando García Asomoza.
I want to share with you Heraldry Information about Abaroa.
In Basque language Abaroa means: dense branches, oak grove, cork-oak plantation according to Endika de Mogrobejo.
By consulting many chroniclers there were diverse Abaroa Houses:
At San Andrés de Pedernales, in Busturia, Biscay Province in Spain.
At Mundaca, in Guernica, Biscay Province in Spain.
At Amoroto, in Marquina, Biscay Province in Spain.
At Lequieto, Biscay Province in Spain.
Coat of Arms from Abaroa-House at Pedernales:
In golden field a green oak-tree with golden fruits and two black walking-positioned wolves, one facing to the right and
the other one to the left at the trunk of the oak.
Bordure in argent with eight ermines in sable.
Heraldic bearings from Abaroa-House at Mundaca:
In argentic field three green oak-trees in fesse position on a green grass and on the upper side two blue keys in saltire tied with a red
ribbon.
Motto: "Ab ore/(o ave) maris chaves pretiosas tradent" with blue letters in a silver band.
Abaroa-House at Amoroto:
In a golden field a green oak-tree with one black walking-positioned wolf facing to the right at the trunk of the oak.
Another Abaroa-Houses wears the Coat of Arms at Amoroto with silver instead golden field.
Sancho de Abaroa fought between 718 and 737 together with Don Pelayo when the city of León in Spain was conquered
the first time by the spaniards to the Moors.
Don Pelayo (?-737) visigoth Nobleman, asturian-leader against muslims. In 722, emir Alcama's army was defeated by
Don Pelayo at Covadonga, in the middle of the Picos de Europa mountains. This victory was the first step in the
Christian Reconquest of Spain. Don Pelayo was elected leader by Christians and founded the capital in Cangas de Onís,
12 kilometers from Covadonga, establishing the future Spanish Monarchy. The Christian Reconquest of Spain was finished in
1492
Captain Rodrigo de Abaroa fought at Aljubarrota Battle against Juan de Aviz from Portugal in 1385. Juan de Castilla
adduced rights to the Portuguese Crown and invaded this country. Portuguese burgess offered the Crown to Juan de Arviz
who organized the resistance. Supported by England, Portugal defeated the Castillian army in this fight.

Don Juan de Abaroa husband of Mrs. María de Arana parents of:
Don Baltasar de Abaroa y Arana who married Mrs. Gracia de Atristáin, parents of:
Don Tomás de Abaroa y Atristáin and Mrs. Lucía de Echabe had two sons and one daughter:
Don Francisco Xavier, Don José Ignacio and Mrs. María de Abaroa y Echabe; these three brothers proved nobility
at Cestona, Guipúzcoa in Spain, in 1740.
Don Francisco Xavier de Abaroa y Echabe was married to Mrs. Inesa de Egaña and from this marriage two sons were born:
Don José Ignacio and Don Francisco Xavier de Abaroa y Egaña; the last one was baptized on june 27th.1690
in Arrona, Biscay.
The two above mentioned brothers emigrated to New Spain: Don Francisco Xavier was settled in Northern México and
Don José Ignacio lived in Puebla City between Mexico City and Veracruz and was the grandfather of:
Don José Ignacio de Abaroa who married Mrs. Luz Calderón had five daughters and three sons: Gregoria, Paula, Ana, María,
Concepción, Joaquín, Maximiliano and Gabriel.
Gabriel Abaroa Calderón married to María Isabel Valdés at Puebla in August 16th. 1900 and five children were born:
Humberto, Enrique, Fernando, Isabel and my grandmother Gabriela.
Gabriela Abaroa Valdés was married to Edmundo García Moreno on July 30th. 1921 and from this marriage 11 children
were born: María del Carmen, Edmundo, José Luis, Gabriela, Jorge, my mother María del Socorro, Fernando, Jesús,
Beatriz, Alicia and Javier García Abaroa.
Dr. Eduardo Valentín Torre Rayas and his wife María del Socorro García Abaroa had three sons: Eduardo Valentín,
Jaime Arturo and Alejandro Torre García.
